In our Part 1 episode, we shared the 4 big effects of trauma. In this Part 2 episode, we bring you 5 important trauma coping skills.
Life is full of unexpected and difficult experiences, and trauma (whether with a capital “T” or lowercase “t”) is one of these difficulties that manifests in almost everyone’s life – yes, even well into late adulthood if gone unhealed.
Sometimes, coping behavior shows up in ways that can harm your mental health – from PTSD to unhealhty coping behaviors of trauma that still (deep down) leave you feeling scared and helpless.
A great benefit of learning coping skills of trauma is also learning coping skills for anxiety and coping skills for depression.
May you start and/or continue your healing journey.

Try these self-soothing tips below:
Mirror work – looking deeply at yourself in the mirror each day and making powerful affirmations like “I matter”, “I’m safe”, “I’m loved”, “Every day, I’m getting better”, or simply “I love you.” Take it a step further and put a picture of you as a child in the corner of the mirror and tell your inner child you love them daily.
Meditation – there are plenty of meditations available that can help you focus on tending to the needs of your inner child and self-compassion, including meditations inside apps like Insight Timer (https://insighttimer.com/)
Letter writing – not only are journaling and expressive writing full of mental health benefits, but they also give you the space to formalize important exchanges between your adult self and inner child
