Trick 1: Isolation
When in doubt, reach out to a trusted person.
Trick 2: Authority
Don’t trust caller ID (it can be faked). Never give your bank account or Social Security number over the phone unless you made the call.
Trick 3: Immediacy and Scarcity
Feel rushed? Does a deal seem too good to be true? Be wary.
Think you’ve been scammed? You can report it to the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org/ScamTracker), FBI (ic3.gov), or FTC (ReportFraud.ftc.gov).
